The Holy Qur’an is the Book from which a Muslim obtains wisdom, guidance, faith, strength, morals, ethics, laws and inspiration. The Qur’an is the word of Allah (SWT), written in pure Arabic, to make things clear for people of all nations, races, tribes, and genders.

The Qur’an comprehends the complete code for Muslims to live a good, pure, and rewarding life in obedience with the orders of Allah, in this life and to gain salvation in the next. The Qur’an is the “map of life” for every human being. Qur’an is the “foundation” of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. Its revelation to the Holy Prophet (Muhammad PBUH) is nothing short of a miracle produced by Allah, revealed in stages and gradually to strengthen the heart.

The importance of studying the Qur’an can only be fully understood through the recognition of the major role they play in a Muslim’s life. If Holy Qur’an is being read, memorized and understood most of the hardships in this life and hereafter are succeed easily. The Qur’an is the prescribed text for every Muslim and it is essential that every Muslim read, understand, and implement the commands contained in the Qur’an.

The Qur’an is complete is the primary source for all Muslims in every area as being the first source of Islam.

At Garden College the studies of the Quran is structured into Four Major Strands Incorporating Both Content and Process.

READING

At this stage, learners should have developed the skill of reading the Qur’an independently along with rules of tajweed. The emphasis in this strand is placed on the comprehension of the verses and chapters the students read. Students will know how to recite the Holy Qur’an fluently by emphasising the pronunciation of the letters (makharij) correctly.

MEMORISING

Memorising chapters from the Qur’an in Arabic is necessary in order to meet the requirements of the five compulsory daily prayers; commit to memory certain chapters of the Qur’an and mature love and interest for memorising more Qur’an as they grow up.

TAJWEED

The aim of the strand is to help develop learners to become confident and independent readers of the Holy Qur’an whilst observing the rules of tajweed. They should be able to explain the rules and read any part of the Qur’an with tajweed.

UNDERSTANDING GENERAL MEANING OF THE PRESCRIBED VERSES AND SURAHS

Students will learn the meaning and translation (Tafseer) of the prescribed verses or surahs and their stage of revelation with their theme. Understand how the Qur’an was revealed to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

RELIGION STUDIES

At Garden College, Islamic Education is considered as an essential step in the development of Muslim children. To achieve this critical step, the school adopts a comprehensive procedure at all levels right from year seven to year ten. This integrates the learning of the principles of Islam, which the following will be covered:

QUR’AN AND HADITH

The course will deal with the need and significance of the divine guidance, the finality of the Qur’an and prophethood of Mohammed (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam). The importance of the Qur’an, its impact on individuals and the human society, its revelation and codification, its subject matter and approach and the principles and requisites of its study will be underscored gradually at the various levels. At the early stage, the emphasis is placed on developing the ability to memorise and read recite the Qur’an.

The significance of Hadeeth in Islam, the codification process, significant collections and Muhadeetheen will be discussed. Memorisation and study of Hadith will also be emphasised. The habit of practising the Qur’an and Hadeeth injunctions will be developed.

The children are taught to recite by heart the shorter Surahs at the end of the Qur’an and to know their meaning, and in due course to read them from the Arabic text. They will also learn about how the Qur’an was revealed and complied, and the reason for its authenticity.

TAWHEED (ONENESS)

The course will introduce the student to Islam as a complete way of life focusing upon the concepts of Tawheed, Risalah, AL-Akhira and Ibadah. Comparison with the dominant contemporary religions and ideologies will be underscored at the advanced level.

Tawheed begins with fundamental questions:

Who is Creator of the universe?

What are the Attributes of Allah?

What is the relationship of the Creator with the things He created?

It deals in greater detail with Allah’s relationship with humankind, and His appointment of messengers to guide and warn humankind. Tawheed, therefore, includes the belief in one God, His Angels, His Prophets, His Books and the Day of Judgement.

MORALS AND ETHICS (AKHALAQ)

This course will deal with the social, moral and spiritual systems of Islam emphasising the concepts of Taqwa, Tazkiyah, Huqooq Ullah and Huqooq ul- Ibad. Social and ethical problems of contemporary society will be analysed, and Islamic solutions will be discussed in detail. Islamic social skills and moral and social attitudes and behaviour of a Muslim will be developed.

The morals and ethics are drawn from the Qur’an and from Sunnah. These teachings relate to personal conduct and attitudes, good manners, relations with parents, family friends and strangers, and persons of other tribes, nationalities and religions, and treatment of animals and other creatures. They also relate to business dealings and economic and political life.

ISLAMIC HISTORY (SEERAH)

The role of man as vicegerent of Allah, the role of the Muslim Ummah as “witness unto mankind” and the part of Islam as a dynamic movement (Jihad) for social change, cultural reconstruction and the establishment of Islamic history. Stories of the prophets will be presented as movements for Islamic resurgence. The Sirah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will be discussed in detail along with the political, economic and cultural system of Islam.

Sirah is the historical record of the life and conduct of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This section also includes the lives and conduct of some of the earlier Prophets.

ESSENTIALS AND PRACTICES (FIQH)

The five pillars of Islam will be discussed extensively providing a thorough background about the Faraidh, Sunnah and Nawafil for each act of worship, the significance of these concepts and Ibadat and their implications for the individual and social life of Muslims will be much emphasised. Abilities to perform various acts of Ibadat will be inculcated.

Essentials and practices comprise how Allah is to be worshipped and what He has prescribed and forbidden to humankind. It, therefore, includes the five Pillars of Islam, i.e. Declaration of faith, salaah, Fasting, Zakaah (Welfare Tax) and Hajj (Pilgrimage). It also deals with the things Allah has commanded or forbidden in the Qur’an or which were approved or disapproved by the Messenger of Allah, and thus constitute the laws binding upon all Muslims and know as the shariah

Additionally, we prepared a detailed programmer to assist the teachers in inoperative the lesson to the students in the best possible manner.

No doubt, the teaching of Islamic education gains broad interest among the parents and guardians concerning the importance of relates to families and society. For this reason, it is also vital that the students visit Cemetery to follow the Sunnah of Prophet ﷺ, Islamic centres and the widespread Mosques in Adeliade to relate the Islamic environment surrounding them with their healthy life.

Besides, to this, the school conducts a comprehensive activity for a full week, which called as Islamic week. During this week competitions are held a Quranic recitation activity of Islamic Surahs were testing of their Islamic knowledge and also we had Hajj play role performance at the end of the week the winners are awarded certificates of merit. The Islamic Education Department supports the library in the purchases of appropriate Islamic teaching Materials and to maintain an up to date knowledge in this area.
